Abstract

This research aims to identify the leading and non-leading sectors as well as to understand the changes and shifts in the economic sectors in Langkat Regency. The data for this study is derived from BPS using secondary data in the form of time series from the GRDP of Langkat Regency and North Sumatra Province for the years 2013-2022. This research employs a descriptive quantitative method with the following analytical tools: 1) Location Quotient (LQ) Analysis, which is used to determine the basic (leading) and non-basic (non-leading) sectors in the economy of Langkat Regency. 2) Shift Share Analysis, which is used to understand the changes and shifts in the economic structure of Langkat Regency. Based on the LQ analysis, there are three leading sectors in Langkat Regency: agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; mining and quarrying; and electricity and gas procurement. The results of the Shift Share analysis show a total value of 9636.02. This indicates that, overall, the sectors in Langkat Regency are growing faster compared to those in North Sumatra Province. The sectors contributing the most to this growth are agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, as well as mining and quarrying..
